Cuomo and Biden Kick Off Campaign for Paid Family Leave in NY
Governor Andrew Cuomo is joining forces with Vice President Joe Biden to bring paid family leave to New York State. They are campaigning for 12 weeks of pay and job protection for workers with a new child or a seriously ill family member.
The Governor and Vice President kicked off the campaign in Manhattan on Friday. The Vice President said people who need time off should not have to worry about missed paychecks.
"Its about being able to care for youre family," Biden said, "Its about being able to look them in the eye and say 'honey, its going to be ok."
Governor Cuomo said paid family leave is also a national issue. He said only three other states have a similar program in place.
