Class of '43 Plans Long Awaited Prom

A group of seniors plans a prom 70 years in the making.

In 1943, prom at James Hillhouse High in New Haven Connecticut was canceled because of World War II. But for their 70th reunion, the class of ‘43 is looking to celebrate the prom they never had.

For Class President Anthony Pegnataro Jr. the reunion might be the last chance to have a prom. There won’t be any tuxedos, gowns, or limousines but he says it will be nice to get together with his former classmates and reminisce.

Fellow alum Marilyn Unger says the years gone by have changed the dynamic of the event.

“I don’t even know if there’s going to be any dancing,” she says, "It's really a lunch because we don't go out at night anymore.”

The event is scheduled for next spring, but the reunion committee starts planning next week.
