Bronx River Greenway Opens Segment in Bronx Park
A ribbon cutting in New York's Bronx Park was held today to celebrate the latest installment of the Bronx River Greenway.
The new foot-and-bike path, stretching 10 miles from East 180th Street to Unionport Road in the Bronx, offers up a serene-getaway in the otherwise busy lifestyle found in New York City. Officials hope installations like this will remove any negative perceptions regarding environment, health and fitness in the borough. And many say the Greenway can aide in improving the community's overall quality of life.
One resident, Luis Rodriguez, who is both a health and nature lover, applauds the efforts the city is doing for his neighborhood. The Greenway has already added 18 acres of newly developed parkland to the Bronx.
"I was always kind of sad that I didn't have access to either running tracks or anything accessible that was appealing. Now, to have something like this right across the street is like a prayer answered."
The entire Greenway is planned to extend into Westchester County, running the full 23-mile length of the river. Funds for construction came from a $200 million investment in Bronx Parks.
