Bronx Bust Nets Hundreds of Pounds Of Heroin

A joint task force of local and federal law enforcement seized over 100 pounds of heroin and the potent opioid Fentanyl in The Bronx. This follows an eight-month investigation of a major drug ring. 32 people were indicted in what authorities say was an international operation to traffic the drugs from Honduras through Mexico and in to the United States. According to the NYPD, the drugs are worth over 20 million dollars. Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said heroin abuse affects people of all walks of life in the borough. She said residents share their horror stories with her all the time. "They tell me of a relative or friend that they lost to overdosing on heroin or other opioids." Clark says in 2015 there were 273 fatal heroin overdoses in the Bronx.
