Breaking Bread to Break the Ban

Scott Wiener runs tours of pizzerias in New York City, but this weekend he'll be giving a very different kind of tour. Wiener and other New York City food tour guides started the Breaking Bread NYC initiative as a way to build community through food. This weekend, he and other guides will lead participants to different restaurants that feature cuisine from some of the countries included in President Trump's travel ban. Eateries like Yemen Cafe and Damascus Bakery in Brooklyn. For Wiener, food is a form of activism.

"It's like a way to participate politically if you don't feel comfortable being an overtly political person. Maybe it's more comfortable for you to eat a dish than it is for you to hold up a sign and scream in the streets."

Wiener says he also hopes the vent will give people an opportunity to try food they've never experienced.
