Earth Day is a few weeks away, and advocates are urging New Yorkers to leave their cars at home.

Councilmember Ydanis Rodriguez is leading a rally at City Hall on Monday to make Earth Day a car-free day in the city.  He is calling on city dwellers to choose mass transit and walking over automobiles.  Rodriguez says the goal is make the city less congested for pedestrians and help the environment.

"As a celebration of Earth Day," said Rodriguez, "we want to have a particular inititave reducing cars from the streets of New York, so that we can reduce the emissions that we produce."

In March, it was announced a section of Broadway will be closed to vehicle traffic on April 22nd so pedestrians can have a place to walk freely on Earth Day.
