ABC Introduces 'Good Afternoon America'

"Good Afternoon America" launched Monday at 2 p.m. on ABC with anchors Josh Elliot and Lara Spencer. The one-hour, news-lifestyle show is said to be a continuation of the long-running morning show, "Good Morning America" of the same network.

Pop culture, health and lifestyle stories, peppered with celebrity interviews and guest musical performances, will be at the center of the new show, according to The New York Times.

Anchors Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos, both of "Good Morning America," reportedly plan to contribute to the afternoon show as well, according to The Times.

Right now, "GAA" is slated to end its daytime run on September 10 when Katie Couric's talk show, "Katie," takes the 3 p.m. time slot and "General Hospital" moves to replace "GAA" at 2 p.m., according to The New York Daily News. 

James Goldston, the senior vice president for content and development at ABC News, told The Daily News that ABC has been looking to extend "GMA" into the afternoon hours because "it has been a very, very successful year for ['GMA']."

In competitor territory, Savannah Guthrie swooped in Monday to replace Ann Curry on "Today."
