This weekend signals the start of SXSW, the long-running music, film and technology festival and conference in the heart of Austin, Texas. Team FUV will be there covering the music angle, culminating with our day-long broadcast of the SXSW Radio Day Stage, powered by VuHaus, on March 17.

Tonight's UKNY at 11 will preview a fraction of the British and Northern Irish bands headed to Austin (precluding any last-minute visa issues or snowstorms) and playing the all-UK enclave of Latitude 30, transformed into the British Music Embassy for the week, with showcases sponsored by the BBC and others.

I'll try to fit in as many of these bands as possible tonight in an hour — like the buoyant London-Reykjavíc threesome Dream Wife (pictured), Exeter punk trio Muncie Girls, Merseyside's She Drew the Gun (with a well-timed 1965 protest song), Armagh's wistful Silences, and Aberystwyth's brilliantly quirky Meilyr Jones.

Missed the show? You can stream UKNY in the FUV Weekend Archives for two weeks after broadcast.
