Tom Felice, one of the voices of the Rams on WFUV chronicled the men's basketball holiday trip to
Georgia and California. This is his final report.
In a standard game of BINGO, the goal is to get five spaces in a row. Horizontal, vertical, or diagonal, it doesn’t matter, as long as they’re are five in line. Long before the season tipped off in November, Fordham had their post-Christmas trip planned out. It would cover six days on the calendar, but if you just look at consecutive blocks of 24 hours, it was closer to five. After the win over Kennesaw State, the Rams would be looking for their fifth win in a row. Just like in BINGO, the waiting for that elusive fifth win can be excruciating.
Fordham planned to leave on December 26th for Atlanta. As the forecasts for snow became more dire, Director of Basketball Operations Mike DePaoli and Coordinator of Travel Jess Powers spent their Christmas organizing alternate plans. These alternate plans ended up in Princeton for one night, Pittsburgh for another before finally making our way toCalifornia. Day 4 and Day 5 each featured games, neither of which went the way the Rams wanted, and Day 6 brought the team home.
At the end of Day 1, I jokingly gave a few things to mark off on a travel mishap BINGO card Little did I suspect the trip would end up taking the twists and turns it did. So now that we’ve been back for a few days, we were able to put together an official BINGO card for the trip. Needless to say, this was not what it would have looked like before the voyage, but that’s part of the fun. Hopefully this can serve as a reminder of the unique experience and fun times spent on the trip.
