'Ignite the Night' Planners Reveal Best Places to Watch Fireworks

Macy's is back to help New Yorkers celebrate another holiday—with "America's biggest fireworks display," says organizers.

"Ignite the Night," Macy's 36th annual Fourth of July fireworks show, will begin Wednesday at approximately 9:20 p.m. The show will take place on/above New York's Hudson River and is set to feature performances from singers Katy Perry and Kenny Chesney. The evening will be hosted by Regis Philbin.

Viewers wishing to get a good view of the show should move to 12th Avenue, below 59th Street and look for various access points along 11th Avenue, according to Macy's website. Access points with the best views: 24th-26th Streets, 27th-29th Streets, 33rd-34th Streets, 40th-42nd Strrets, 44th-50th Streets, 52nd-54th Streets, 56th-57th Streets. Pier 84 on 44th Street is also said to be a good place to watch.

DeWitt Clinton Park (access at 51st and 11th Avenue) will be open to viewers with disabilities, according to The New York Times.

According to Macy's website, parking will not be widely available, so organizers reccomend other forms of transportation. Note: Subways and buses will both run on a Saturday schedule. For more information about transportation options: http://macys.com/fireworks

Roughly 40,000 fireworks will be launched over a 25-minute score, according to organizers. The display has been design by Craig Ward.

For those who don't feel like pushing through crowded sidewalks and subway cars to see a 25-minute show, the fireworks display will be broadcast by WNBC (Channel 4 in New York) beginning at 9 p.m., and by WINS (1010 AM) and 102.7 FM.
