New Music Monday is a collection of the best new releases in music each week. We share them with you every Monday, every hour on WFUV.

Gary Clark, Jr.- “Ain’t Messin’ Around”

Resisting a one liner relating the title of the song to Clark’s style was pretty tough. One listen and you’ll understand; this guy knows how to make a great throwback jam.

LP- “Into the Wild”

Laura Pergolizzi has written hits for Rihanna, Backstreet Boys, and Christina Aguilera. Now LP gets her own big shot with her major label debut, but it sounds like she’s doing it differently than the pop stars.

Bettye LaVette- Thankful N’ Thoughtful

Bettye LaVette wants people to know that she is serious about music, and making it her own way. She has said so in interviews and now she backs that up with this intense and heartfelt record.

Chris Robinson Brotherhood- “Little Lizzie Mae”

The Black Crowes front man has had a very busy year. After an 118 show tour, Robinson released his album Big Moon Ritual this summer. This new track isn’t even on that record.

Neil Halstead- Palindrome Hunches

Founding member of shoegaze bands Slowdive and Mojave 3 is now releasing his third solo album. This modern day Nick Drake continues his long and consistently good career with this record.

Ry Cooder- Election Special

Cooder is a legend, and he keeps up appearances with this 2012 election based album. Ry also produced this record; he really seems to know how to highlight his skills, which are still quite present.

Tom Tom Club- Downtown Rockers

Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth, of Talking Heads, show off some retro grooves on this record. It recalls Talking Heads eclectic dance-ability while putting a modern spin on it.

Tori Amos- “Flavor”

The first single off of Tori’s newest album, Gold, gives you more of her familiar orchestral pop. A pretty cool video was also released with this track that showcases our own NYC.
