FUV's New Dig
Various Artists performing songs by Beck
It has been a good year for Beck fans. We were ecstatic to hear a set of beautiful, folky songs on his first proper album since 2008, Morning Phase, and are feeling even more so now, as we've received his second project of the year: a recorded version of Song Reader. But let’s rewind to 2012.

The New Pornographers
The New Pornographers are an eight member collective of musicians who have been together for over fifteen years. Their latest work is a strong, new album that looks back to great songwriting from the past and filters this classic pop through their contemporary, indie rock vision. The new album, Brill Bruisers, is the sixth studio effort from The New Pornographers and their first since 2010’s Together.
Benjamin Booker is a new artist poised to make a unique mark on the current landscape of American rock. His debut album, Benjamin Booker, sounds nothing like what we have heard in the past. This is no small feat. It’s not easy to create something fresh and new using the same basic materials as others who have come before. Booker taps into both the old masters as well as his contemporaries and – like Victor Frankenstein building the perfect beast – he takes bits and pieces from these influences to create new life. As if he is declaring his arrival, Booker sings, “I’m a new beginning,” in the song “Wicked Waters."

They Want My Soul
Loma Vista Records
You may not even realize it, but Spoon is a twenty-year-old band. They got together in Austin, Texas in late 1993, and they've spent years forging their identity and honing their craft as they watched other indie rock darlings come and go.
