Al Michaels Receives Vin Scully Lifetime Achievement Award

Last Thursday night WFUV’s annual Gala honored one of the greats in the sports broadcasting industry as Al Michaels received the Vin Scully Lifetime Achievement Award. Michaels joins Scully, Dick Enberg, Ernie Harwell, and Pat Summerall in the exclusive club.

Scully and Michaels were unable to attend the Gala, Scully enjoyed a rare off day from his booth at Chavez Ravine and Michaels was needed in Hawaii for a family wedding (no offense to WFUV but tough to pass that up). Though Michaels made sure he was well represented with friend and colleague Bob Costas (not to shabby of a replacement) accepting the award in his place. Also in attendance was an all-star cast of WFUV alums: Bob Papa, radio voice of the New York Giants, Chris Carrino, radio voice of the Brooklyn Nets, and Spero Dedes, radio voice of the New York Knicks.

Speeches by Costas and Papa accompanied short video messages from Scully and Michaels celebrating the Brooklyn native whose career highlights include Super Bowls, World Series’ and Olympic games.
