Fordham Men Basketball’s early season struggles continue as they fall to UMass Lowell
It has been agreed by sports analysts and sports fans alike; for Fordham’s Men Basketball team to have a successful season they must take care of out of conference games. On Sunday, they failed to do so.
The UMass Lowell River Hawk’s (3-2) came in to Rose Hill Gymnasium and defeated  the Fordham Rams 64-57 to drop them to 1-3 on the season.  The River Hawks are now on a three game winning streak after defeating an Atlantic 10 team for the first time in program history.
The Rams, coming off a 66-50 loss to Maryland last Thursday were looking to bounce back against a traditionally weak UMass Lowell team. The River Hawks, in just their second season in Division I, took the Rams by surprise as they kept the game close throughout the first half.
Things changed in the second half, as the River Hawks started to pull away at the 8:53 mark, going on a 9-0 run to make it 57-46 with 6:08 left to play. The Rams would not come back, despite a plethora of missed free throws by UMass Lowell to close the game. The River Hawks would go 1 for 12 on free throws in the final 90 seconds but Fordham was unable to make up ground.  Ryan Rhoomes led the Rams with 13 points and a career high 15 rebounds.
It was a rough loss for head coach Tom Pecora and the Fordham Rams, their third consecutive defeat is the first of a pivotal four game homestand. They will look to bounce back Saturday against University of Maryland Eastern Shore (1-4) at home. Tip-off is at 4:00 PM, with the One on One Pregame Report beginning at 3:55pm and live game coverage beginning after the completion of Fordham Football vs Sacred Heart.
