Seahawks settle into New Jersey

Seattle not taking anything for granted

The Seattle Seahawks are settled at their hotel in Jersey City and begin preparation for the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII. Many players were excited to talk about the game and how they were preparing for it.

Seahawks left tackle Russell Okung said the run game is “our identity” and “we need to establish it early and often”.  That rushing attack features Marshawn Lynch in the backfield.  Lynch rushed for 1,257 yards and 12 touchdowns this season, including 3 touchdowns so far this postseason.

Tight end Zach Miller said, “We don’t need any extra motivation this week, we are in the Super Bowl.”  The thought of hoisting the Lombardi Trophy in front of millions of people should be more than enough motivation.  Seattle has an opportunity to become World Champions and the Seahawks have obviously bought in to the message that Pete Carroll is preaching.

Fullback Michael Robinson said head coach Pete Carroll’s philosophy of “treating every game, every moment, every opportunity like it’s a championship moment”, made him love him and the way he coaches.  Pete Carroll had a similar admiration for Robinson.  When asked about Robinson’s contribution this season, Carroll said he was a player from the “old guard”, referencing his toughness and physical play in the backfield.

That secondary, nicknamed the “Legion of Boom”, will have their hands full on Sunday.  The Broncos offense features 4 receivers who have ten or more touchdown catches. Players like Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor, and Earl Thomas will be called upon to shut down the Denver receivers.  Seattle needs to do that in order to have a chance to win the Super Bowl.   The Seahawks continued their preparation in the morning and later travelled to Super Bowl Media Day in the afternoon.
