Rams take 14 point first quarter lead, but drop conference opener 34-31

After jumping out to a 14-0 lead in the 1st quarter against the 11th best team in the FCS, it appeared as though the Fordham Rams were on their way to a 4-1 record. However, thanks to 24 unanswered points from the Lehigh Mountain Hawks and 22 yard field goal from Jake Peery as time expired, Fordham suffered its second loss of the season.

Despite the defeat, senior quarterback Ryan Higgins had a career day as he threw for 373 yards and two touchdowns in the air while also running in a score. Higgins wasn’t the only Ram with a stellar performance as wide outs Nick Talbert and Brian Wetzel each eclipsed the century mark and senior running back Carlton Koonce ran for over 100 yards for the 4th time this season.

On the defensive side of the ball, the visitors once again received solid production from their linebacking core as senior Mike Martin led the team with 10 tackles and sophomore Austin Hancock had 9 tackles and an interception. Even with the performances of the linebackers, the Rams defense gave up 515 yards of total offense. Fordham allowed Mountain Hawks quarterback Michael Colvin to throw for 341 yards.
