Football Crushes URI on Homecoming
After a 50-6 loss to Villanova last week, the Fordham football team was looking to bounce back against the University of Rhode Island Rams on Homecoming, and they did not disappoint, winning 54-7.
At the start, Fordham's offense looked to be struggling just as much as they were last week. They turned the ball over three times in the first quarter, but a missed field goal by URI and solid play by the Fordham defense stopped Rhode Island from taking advantage. Hanging around paid off for Fordham, as they ended up scoring first on a Chase Edmonds 16-yard touchdown to put them up 7-0, and then the Rams started clicking.
After having -5 rushing yards against Villanova, Edmonds exlpoded for four touchdowns and re-set the Fordham freshman rushing yard record he broke in Week 1 with 231. Quarterback Michael Nebrich also had a nice bounce back game after settling down after two early interceptions, throwing for 331 yards on 22-38 passing with one touchdown.
And let's not forget the Fordham defense, chipping in with a fumble recovery in the endzone and a safety, both by Ian WIlliams, and holding URI to just seven points.
The now 2-1 Fordham Rams travel into Manhattan next Saturday to take on Columbia University in the Liberty Cup at 12:30 p.m.
