CT Voters Look to their Pocketbooks ahead of Gov. Race Rematch
"Failing economy" vs. "progress." in Constitution State.
Now that the Republicans have chosen their gubernatorial candidate, expect Connecticut's economy to be the likely theme in this year's rematch between Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and Republican businessman Tom Foley.
While the GOP says the race will be a referendum on the state's "failing economy" and Malloy's handling of it, Democrats argue that progress has been made since Malloy took office in 2011 and there should not be a change of course.
Between now and Nov. 4, voters will hear arguments from both sides about whether the state is finally recovering from the national recession.
Quinnipiac University Poll Director Douglas Schwartz said voters in Connecticut still see the state's economy as being in bad shape, despite any progress made during Malloy's tenure. He said the issue trumps others.
