TAS In-Studio

TAS in Session: The Postelles

A few years ago at the Sidewalk Cafe in the East Village, Albert Hammond Jr., guitarist for The Strokes, happened to pop in when The Postelles were on stage. At the time, the Upper West Siders were indie rockers playing gigs on the weekends for friends. After the encounter with Hammond, the guys sent him their demo, and he liked what he heard. Fast forward to 2009: The band has been rehearsing, and just started recording their debut album with their now-good-friend Albert. The band has a collection of catchy pop tunes (they're big Beatles fans) and an established local following.

TAS in Session: James Walsh of Starsailor

It's been about three years since we last heard from the UK's Starsailor. After a little time off, the band began recording their fourth studio album, which is called All The Plans. Recording is now complete, and the record will be out in March of 2009. We want to give you a sneak peak though. James Walsh of Starsailor dropped by Studio A, and I had a chance to talk to him about All The Plans. He was also kind enough to play us a few songs from it, including a standout called "Tell Me It's Not Over." It reminds me of Joseph Arthur's "In The Sun." Enjoy.

TAS In Session: We Are Scientists

We Are Scientists performed in-studio at The Alternate Side on November 20th. Feast your eyes and ears on "After Hours" off their latest release Brain Thrust Mastery.

TAS in Session: Emiliana Torrini

Voice sound familiar? Emiliana Torrini sang the "Gollum Song" on the Lord Of The Rings soundtrack and has worked with Franz Ferdinand and recent Hot Chip records via Dan Carey (her producer). Yes, I love Lord of the Rings, and yes that makes me a dork. Following her debut album 'Fisherman's Woman' on Rough Trade, the forthcoming album 'Me And Armini' combines her elegant layered voice drifting along a soothing Icelandic landscape. Check out "Me and Armini" performed live on The Alternate Side!

TAS in Session: Rachael Yamagata

Rachael Yamagata stopped by our studios to perform a few tunes off her latest release "Elephants...Teeth Sinking into Heart". Rachael performed "Sunday Afternoon" on WFUV this past Thursday.
