Coming across the music of Jersey City-based Sean Kiely's is like unearthing a gem. His intricate, lush, and detailed folk songs are arresting in their gentle beauty.

"Irises," the opening track from Kiely's latest album, 2024's Postcards of the Reckoning, cuts right through the static of a busy mind. Everything else fades away, and you're transported to a calm and peaceful place. All eight tracks on this album stay with you like a comforting friend.

Kiely has been releasing music for more than a decade — his debut album was 2015's Your Logo, My Logo. Not only a "NY Slice" alum, but a longtime favorite of "Sunday Supper" host John Platt, Kiely made his SXSW debut in Austin, Texas in March and opened for Richard Thompson in February at a hometown venue, White Eagle Hall.

For his FUV "NY Slice" session, Kiely played with violinist Bobby Hawk for a two-song set of "Irises" and "Hold Me Out (or, Hold Me In)" — and Sean took the "NY Slice" pop quiz too, singing the praises of the late, great Rockwood Music Hall.
