Jockey Victor Espinoza Reacts to Belmont Loss

After riveting wins in the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness, Jockey Victor Espinoza and his horse, California Chrome, saw their dreams come to an end at the Belmont Stakes.  After being injured at the start of the race, California Chrome never recovered and finished tied for fourth with Wicked Strong.

As California Chrome looks to become the first horse to capture the Triple Crown in 36 years, it is clear that his connections have a positive outlook on Saturday’s race.  Co-owner Steve Coburn has maintained an optimistic attitude since the Preakness and is going full speed ahead into Belmont.

Jerry Bailey, a Hall of Fame jockey and NBC horse-racing analyst, spent 32 years riding horses for his storied careers. Bailey captured two Kentucky Derbies, two Preaknesses, and two Belmont Stakes. He won the Breeders’ Cup Classic five times, before his retirement in 2006.
