Roddick Is Officially Retired, Berdych Upsets Federer

The crowds at day ten of the U.S. Open saw Andy Roddick play his final match, a loss to 7th ranked Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina, (6-7, 7-6, 6-2, 6-4). Roddick only had 3 break opportunities after the first set and could not convert any of them. Despite being broken twice in the third set, Roddick continued to play hard. He served in 130MPH range at many points through out the match, and saved a match point on his serve. 

Upsets Galore on the Women’s Side

The Radwanskas won’t want to hear the name “Roberta Vinci” brought up at the dinner table anytime soon.
 
Urszula was knocked out in the first round by the 29 year-old Italian, and #2 Agnieska was upset today 6-1, 6-4, eliminating yet another big name from the Open field.

Baldwin, Tucci Hit the Red Carpet

There’s only one way to kick off a tennis Grand Slam tournament in New York: Celebrities.

The first day of the U.S Open brought its highlights on the court (read below) but it also made a glitzy opening night. Every year the USTA hosts its Gala, a major fundraiser for “USTA Serves,” which contributes over $400,000 to fund college scholarships and program grants to tennis and education programs over the country.

Helping kick off the event, which included a reception, dinner, live and silent auctions, first-round matches, and the opening night ceremonies, were popular movie and television actors Alec Baldwin and Stanley Tucci.
