Baseball is romantic and it is cruel. The Yankees have four games left to play but their season is now effectively over and the playoffs are out of reach. The sun has set on two pillars of Yankee folklore and the impressive charade of a mostly bench player roster has finally worn down and come to grips with a reality many thought earlier this year was destiny.

Saturday during One on One, Amit and I had the distinct opportunity to speak with Yahoo Sports National Baseball writer Jeff Passan about the Winter Meetings that took place last week. We talked about the logistics of the what goes on in the hotel complex, inquired about the outfield market, and got the latest word on the Mets and Yankees. (This was taped just before Zack Greinke signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers).

For the fourth straight ALCS playoff game, the New York Yankees’ bats fell dormant, falling to Detroit 8-1.  For the second time in six years, the Tigers are going to World Series.

In fact, the last time the Tigers made it there, they knocked off both the Yankees and the Oakland Athletics. They just might face the St. Louis Cardinals again too. For the Yankees, the game was a fitting end to their offensive nightmare of a postseason, and now an unpredictable offseason looms.

Yankee Players Surprise Local Senior Home Party

The employees and residents of the East Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in the Bronx were getting ready for what was originally thought to be a regular Thursday visit by the local organization, the GlamourGals. GlamourGals is a group of high school and college aged males and females who pay frequent visits to nursing homes and pamper them with manicures and makeovers. However, this special event was enhanced by some unexpected visitors.
