Prior to spring training, the outside expectations for the Mets were to win under 80 games by season's end. The team has played well over that thus far. Entering the All-Star break, the Mets are 46-40.
Daniel Murphy has a had a lot to do with that. Earlier in the season, his hot hitting carried the team. He had cooled off for most of June, but he carried a hot bat into the break.
Ike Davis couldn't hit his way out of a paper bag for the first two months of the season. He finally began to turn it around last month with 6 HR, 24 RBI, and a .264 batting average.
