Fan Fest offers myriad perspectives on a lost skill

As MLB announces its suspensions and works tirelessly to remove Alex Rodriguez from the game of baseball, it is also facing a turning point in the state of the game. The reliance on home runs is slowly diminishing as are steroids, which means managers and players will eventually need to re-learn and implement the basics and mentalities of "small-ball."

A few weeks ago during the MLB Fan Fest, I had the opportunity to speak with a few former players, umpires, and fans to discuss the keys to stealing a base, and the likely re-emergence of that important but currently forgotten skill. Hall of Famer Lou Brock and former big leaguer Mark McLemore among others shared their thoughts about how to approach base stealing and what they look for from the pitcher.

A day at the Fan Fest turned into mining the skills and opinions of a lost art in the hopes it will soon be found.
