An interview with the Mets closer from Los Angeles
Last Saturday, Frank Francisco was placed on the 15-day DL. Terry Collins instantly inserted Bobby Parnell into the closer's role, a position he's had before, but did not show much success. On Thursday, he converted his first save since September 22nd of last season.
His approach to the 9th inning was much different. Instead of trying to strike all the opposing Dodgers out, he pitched to contact with his electric fastball and his change-of-pace breaking stuff.
We discussed the difference in approach between the 8th and 9th, how the expectations for himself and the team have fared thus far, and even joked around about being more enthusiastic in his post-game interviews.
