Penn Analysis, Lehigh Preview

The injury report has become the most vital publication surrounding the Fordham football team midway through the 2011 season. The injuries have come in bunches and, now, so have the losses. Behind a 15 point defeat at the hands of the Penn Quakers on Saturday evening, the Rams have lost three consecutive games since besting Columbia in the Liberty Cup Game on September 17.

The cold and rainy atmosphere on Monday night felt eerily similar to the weather patterns experienced in Hamilton, New York last Saturday when the Colgate Raiders downed the Rams 38-14 at Andy Kerr Stadium. Luckily, this time we were protected from the elements in our WFUV studios, where Kyle Kesses and myself broke down the contest with Fordham head football coach Tom Masella.

Post-Game Report: Colgate def. Fordham 38-14

Last season, the Fordham Rams were soundly defeated by Colgate, 47-12, on Senior Day. In that game, star Raiders running back Nate Eachus shredded the Rams for 204 yards on 30 carries, a whopping 6.8 yards per carry, as Colgate picked up 316 yards on the ground in total. All told, the Raiders racked up 514 yards of offense that day.

Fordham Football has gone step-by-step through the first three games of the season. The most recent foot landed in Kingston, R.I. on Saturday afternoon where Fordham was tripped up 21-17 at the hands of U.R.I.

Columbia Analysis, URI Preview

Monday Night Quarterback returns to wfuv.org on the heels of Fordham’s 21-14 victory over Columbia on Saturday afternoon in the 10th annual Liberty Cup Game. The Rams used five sacks, a 100-yard interception returned for a touchdown, and a last second defensive effort to post its first win of 2011. With Saturday’s triumph, Fordham has now won six of the first 10 Liberty Cup Games contested since the hardware was introduced in 2002 in remembrance of those affiliated with both Universities who lost their lives in the attacks of September 11, 2001.

Post-Game Report: URI def. Fordham 21-17

The Fordham Rams fell to their namesakes, the Rhode Island Rams 21-17 in Kingston, Rhode Island on Saturday. With the loss, the Fordham Football team coached by Tom Masella drops to 1-2 on the season.

The Rams of Fordham were down 14-3 at the half, but QB Peter Maetzold lead a spirited comeback. He threw a touchdown pass to Carlton Koonce in the 3rd quarter and ran for a score with 3:52 in the 4th quarter to give Fordham a 17-14 lead.

Rams QB Position Up for Grabs

What started as a two man showdown appears to have become a three-way race for the Fordham starting quarterback position. Part-time 2010 starter Ryan Higgins and Griffin Murphy, who missed all of last season due to injury, came into camp vying for the job but found company in the form of Freshman Peter Maetzold, a Houston area product out of Friendswood HS.

John Skelton's First NFL Start

Fordham didn’t just make waves in college basketball last weekend; Fordham alum John Skelton took the field for the Arizona Cardinals, netting a win in his first career start. Skelton avoided many of the problems that often force rookie quarterbacks back to the bench after their first start. He didn’t turn the ball over, didn’t get sacked, and even completed 40% of his passes.
