Rams 3-0 in A10 for first time ever with wins over UMass and Richmond
Riding the momentum of their victory over Charlotte in the Atlantic 10 opener, the Fordham Rams Women’s Basketball program used the friendly confines of the Rose Hill Gym to continue their best start ever in conference play. The Rams sit atop the A-10 standings at 3-0 with the nationally ranked Dayton Flyers and the Duquesne Dukes.
On this week’s edition of the Stephanie Gaitley Show, Mike Watts and I talked with the head coach after the Rams won their 6th game in a row. Gaitley emphasized the importance of Erin Rooney’s offensive prowess in the victory over the Minutewomen of UMass and the team’s defense in the low scoring defeat of the University of Richmond. With two important road matchups this week, the veteran head coach stressed that her team cannot overlook anyone in conference play.
This week we also had the pleasure of being joined by graduate student Marah Strickland and redshirt junior Erin Rooney. Strickland told us how blessed she is to have scored 1,000 career points. The former Maryland Terp also thanked Coach Gaitley and Fordham for the opportunity to continue her collegiate basketball career. As for Rooney, the point guard told the program that is has been nice to see the improvement of senior Ace Collins and Abigail Corning on the offensive side. The Monmouth transfer told Mike and me that defense is the main reason why Fordham won Sunday’s game against Richmond.
Fordham will try to get to 4-0 in conference play on the road against Xavier University on Wednesday evening. Tip off is 7pm and we’ll be on with the One on One pregame report at 6:55 on WFUVSports.org. Then on Sunday tune in at 2pm as the Rams travel to Pittsburgh to take on Duquesne. Coverage begins at 1:55pm. WFUV is the exclusive radio home of Fordham Women’s Basketball all season long.
