Rams Hot Start Helps Them Hold on Against Siena
The Fordham Rams (3-9) notched their third victory of the season by defeating the Siena Saints (2-9) at home on Sunday , 81-75.
After a tough road schedule, the Fordham offense seemed revitalized in the confines of the Rose HIll Gym. The Rams shot 69 percent from the field in the first-half and senior forward Chris Gaston had a strong start with 20 points in that period. A Chris Gaston jumper near the lane at 6:57 put Fordham up 33-18. Siena made push near the end of the half but the Rams finished strong, leading 47-31.
Siena did make a second half surge, using the 3-ball to draw within 55-52 after a Rob Poole 3. Sophomore guard Poole led the Saints with 21 points. Fordham again rose to the challenge led by strong play from junior point guard Branden Frazier. Forwards Ryan Rhoomes, Travion Leonard and Gaston did a good job on the boards, limiting Siena's second chance points and maximizing their own. The Rams out-rebounded the Saints 32-19. Frazier's 3 with 3:43 left sealed the deal with the score at 74-66. Despite committing some foolish fouls near the end of the game Fordham held on to win, 81 points is the team's season high.
The Rams next play on Saturday when they travel south for an encounter with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Tip off is set for 7:00 PM, with the One on One post game report coming your way at 6:55 on both 90.7 FM and WFUVSports.org.
