ESPN 30 for 30 Premiere: "Broke"
Many professional athletes make millions of dollars, but many lose it in a heartbeat. How is this possible? Why does this happen? Along with producer Alfred Spellman, Billy Corben directs his latest film Broke- which I had the opportunity to cover at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier in April- that attempts to answer these questions. Talking heads of current and former athletes narrate this story, providing anecdotal commentary and cautionary tales on their liquid state of compensation.
Film Review: The Other Dream Team
The phrase “Dream Team” is something of an untouchable when it comes to sports. It belongs to one team, and any comparison pales in its shadow or provides heated debate. Take for instance this year’s USA basketball team at the London Olympics, where mild back and forth ensued over 2012 versus 1992; who would have been better? But in Lithuania, during the Barcelona Olympics there was another Dream Team, one filled with talent, yes, but which also carried the pride of a nation that was silenced under Soviet rule for over fifty years.

The guys for once agree with Joe this week that the Jets will actually get a win against Miami.
Film Review: Trouble with the Curve
In sports, it usually takes three of something to deem it a streak, especially in baseball where there’s a number for everything. Maybe it’s just a coincidence that for the second consecutive year we’ve been given a baseball film in late September (recall last year’s Moneyball, the Oscar nominated Billy Beane memoir). This year’s diamond flick, Trouble With The Curve, besides a similar release date examines more front office dynamics, but this time with a slap back at the sabermetric world, balancing front office order by chronicling an aging scout who believes in evaluating players without those hokey computers.

One on One Talks Tennis
On a warm, breezy, and most importantly, sunny day in Flushing Meadows, Amit Badlani, Jake Kring-Schreifels, and I hosted One on One live from the US Open. On a day filled with American tennis, we had much to discuss regarding the direction of the sport in our country. Just hours after Andy Roddick had shaken Arthur Ashe Stadium, we sat outside the venue with special guests discussing his impact on tennis and what chances he has to excite the fans a little while longer.

It’s not every day you meet someone like Bubba Watson – a great person, role model, and as he described himself, “alright at golf, sometimes.”
