New York City officials are urging residents to guard against heat-related illness as the summer moves into full swing.

The National Weather Service is predicting a high around 93 on Wednesday.

The Health Department says more than 80 percent of heat stroke deaths in recent years involved victims who were in homes without air conditioning.

Health Commissioner Mary Bassett and Office of Emergency Management Commissioner Joseph Esposito are calling for New Yorkers to check on vulnerable family, friends and neighbors.
