The biggest labor union in New York City has weighed in on the mayor's race. Local 1199 of the Service Employees International Union is providing a prized endorsement for Public Advocate Bill de Blasio in the competitive Democratic primary.

President George Gresham said Friday the health care workers' union sees de Blasio as a champion of working families.

The union represents more than 200,000 workers citywide. It's considered a powerful political ally that can turn out fleets of campaign volunteers.
