Quogue Cemetary and More Could Be Added

Preservation authorities have recommended adding 17 listings to the New York and national registers of historic places.

Being listed can help owners restore and maintain properties because they're eligible for certain public programs, grants and tax credits.

Among the properties the state Board for Historic Preservation says should be listed are the West Endicott Hose Co. No.1 in Broome County, the Sidney Historic District in Delaware County, Oak Hill Cemetery in Herkimer, the First Presbyterian Church of Newtown in Queens, the Shantz Button Factory in Rochester and Trinity Episcopal Church in Syracuse.

Others include Glenn H. Curtiss Memorial High School in Hammondsport, Congregation Tifereth Yehuda Veyisroel in Kerhonkson and Quogue Cemetery on Long Island.

If approved by the state, the sites would be nominated for the national register.
