New York Governor Cuomo’s budget closes a ten billion dollar hole with hundreds of millions of dollars in cuts to education and aid to cities and towns.

But there are smaller cuts too.

Cuomo proposes slashing 5 million dollars in aid to the Long Island State Veterans Home, a 10 percent hit to their budget.

Fred Sganga is the home’s executive director. He said, “The home’s quite efficient. We run lean and mean, and we get the job done. And the only way I can meet those cuts is to actually close beds that are filled.”

Sganga said the home’s already at capacity with a waiting list.
