State Senator Looney fights for display of religious symbols outside homes
A Connecticut lawmaker says the state has a responsibility to protect the rights of its residents who display religious symbols outside their homes.
State Senator Martin Looney introduced legislation today, alongside a Stratford woman who had a run in with her condo association. Looney said the woman was asked to remove a Jewish symbol, known as a Mezuzah, from her door frame.
“In the case of a very modest religious object of this kind, condominium associations should not act arbitrarily in prohibiting their placement on a doorpost” said Looney. He said the Mezuzah was a small unobtrusive object .
The Anti- Defamation League is supporting Looney’s legislation.
