Penn Station Eerily Quiet After Juno

The lunchtime rush in Penn Station was missing today as the city slowly tries to return to normal, faring much better than expected after Winter Storm Juno.

Penn Station was eerily quiet Tuesday afternoon without it's usual crowds of commuters and tourists.

A number of stores inside the Manhattan transportation hub didn't open after Monday night's travel ban kept workers and customers stuck at home in case of severe weather.

Craig Newman owns a bookstore in Penn. He says he stayed at a nearby hotel so he could open his shop as soon as trains started up again. Newman says the snow day will probably cost him about half his normal weekday sales.

"Normally at this time it would start to pick up," he said.  "It would be busy, but you can see there's no traffic really.  It's kind of like a Sunday."

Newman's criticizing the strict measures taken to prepare for the storm. He says transit closures make it harder for Penn Station's businesses to pay rent and turn a profit.
