US and Cuba to Reestablish Diplomacy

After decades of silence, the former Cold War foes are talking again.

The United States and Cuba are set to reestablish diplomatic relations for the first time since the height of the Cold War.

President Obama announced that the two nations will have official diplomatic ties for the first time since 1961. He said business and travel restrictions will also be loosened. The President said the agreement is long overdue.

"Change is hard," said President Obama. "And change is even harder when we have the weight of history on our shoulders."

"But today, we are making these changes because it is the right thing to do," the President added.

Cuban President Raul Castro said he thinks despite their differences, he thinks both nations can find common ground.

"We reaffirm our willingness to dialogue in all of these areas," Castro said.

The talks between the US and Cuba happened in Canada, and in Vatican City. Pope Francis was personally involved in bringing both sides to the negotiating table.
