Yes, a frigid wind whipped down Broadway on this brisk December night, but the Beacon Theatre was an oasis of warmth and bonhomie as FUV Holiday Cheer got underway, the second year the radio station has celebrated this annual event at the legendary venue.

Cheers To You

by Darren DeVivo

I know there hasn't been a lot of good news in the area lately, but we're hoping to add a little bit of cheer to your Monday. It's been amazing to see people coming together, helping each other out, and even checking in with us at the station to see how we're doing in the aftermath of Sandy. So today at Noon, it's "Cheers to You"—an hour full of your song requests. What do you want to hear? Post your song ideas in the comments section below, or head to Facebook: the WFUV page or my page.

I'll play as many requests as I can in the Noon hour. Then just after 5pm, Dennis Elsas will announce the headliner of this year's Holiday Cheer for FUV benefit concert, which is headed back to the Beacon Theatre on December 5th.

Lucinda Williams - Backstage at Holiday Cheer for WFUV

by Rita Houston

Holiday Cheer for FUV headliner Lucinda Williams followed the lead of Shelby Lynne, Steve Earle and Shawn Colvin and performed her first song ("Lake Charles") with just voice and guitar. It was a nod to the artform that sits at the core of her songs, which have been tugging at our ears, hearts and minds for years. Her set didn't stay quiet for long though... thanks to her killer band, and some help from Steve Earle too.

Lake Street Dive - Backstage at Holiday Cheer for WFUV

by Rita Houston

FUV is all about supporting new artists, and if you'd heard Lake Street Dive on FUV or seen video of their Kevin Bacon-approved cover of "I Want You Back," you knew we were in for quite a kick-off at this year's Holiday Cheer for FUV. If you didn't know the Brooklyn-via-Boston band before that night, well, they took full advantage of the biggest stage they'd ever played and won over a whole new crop of music fans.

Shawn Colvin - Backstage at Holiday Cheer for WFUV

by Rita Houston

Shawn Colvin flew in from her current hometown of Austin to perform at Holiday Cheer for FUV and it was great to have Shawn back in town. A big part of her career started here in NYC and what a treat it was to have her onstage at The Beacon Theatre. Shawn played a solo, acoustic set that included 2 new songs, 1 classic and 1 cover. Her masterful guitar playing shines throughout. Shawn is one of the best songwriters out there and such an interesting person, as you'll see in her backstage chat with FUV's Eric Holland.
