She's a tremendous singer, and here she recalls her childhood in Harlem and her Dad Johnny while showcasing tracks from her Never Going Back CD.
It was an amazing experience to sit down with the legendary "King of Rock and Soul." He came to WFUV dapper as ever, right down to the hat and gloves. We talked about recording his album Nashville in Buddy & Julie Miller's house, his take on today's performers and his idea of drive-thru mortuaries!
I've enjoyed many sessions with both The Kennedys (long-time friends of FUV) and Red Molly (the trio formed at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in 2004), but have special fondness for this 2007 session when Pete and Maura Kennedy joined Abbie Gardner, Laurie McAllister, and Carolann Solebello in the studio, just as Red Molly was gaining popularity. They did some songs separately and then joined forces for an awesome jam on "Matty Groves."
