Sean Watkins wasn't yet a teenager when he, his sister Sara, and Chris Thile formed Nickel Creek, the Grammy-winning bluegrass trio. More than 25 years later, he's accumulated a wealth of experience, including side projects with Friction Family (with Jon Forman), WPA (with Glen Phillips and Benmont Tench), and the Watkins Family Hour (with Sara, Fiona Apple, and others).

He's also matured as a singer-songwriter, as evidenced by his new solo album, What to Fear. He performed a couple of songs and talked about the culture of bluegrass, the Nickel Creek reunion, and the way the title track captures the zeitgeist of the moment in this session for "Sunday Supper."
