Return To The Moon is the debut of the duo EL VY, a collaboration between vocalist and lyricist Matt Berninger of the National and multi-instrumentalist and producer Brent Knopf, the frontman of Ramona Falls and a former member of Menomena.

Despite the fact that Berninger and Knopf are just now releasing their first joint project, the longtime friends have entertained the possibility of working together for many years. Late last year, Berninger and Knopf coordinated their busy schedules long enough to allow them to make this album.

Fans of the National will hear a different side to Berninger on Return To The Moon. With the National, his signature baritone usually conveys a somber and ominous mood. But with EL VY, we see a lighter, more spirited aspect of his artistic personality. This alternate side of Berninger mixes well with Knopf’s musical sensibilities to create a uniquely distinct sound.

With Return To The Moon under their belts, both Berninger and Knopf plan to return to the National and Ramona Falls, respectively, for those bands’ next albums. But don’t think of EL VY as a one-time side project because both artists hope to work together again.
