Amy Soucy and Rupert Wates are both New York singer-songwriters who arrived here from different directions. Amy set out from Detroit, where she grew up, to pursue a career in musical theater. While that didn't pan out, it did enhance her performing skills. As she followed a new path as a singer-songwriter, she got a lot of support from the Summersongs musical community. She has also been inspired by her work as a yoga and meditation teacher.

London native Rupert Wates came to New York in 2007 via Paris, where he met his American-born wife. An Oxford graduate, Rupert has created some theater pieces himself. Many of his songs are portraits of performers or people on the margins of society. Since he spends well over 100 days per year on the road, I was glad he had time to come into Studio A with Amy, in advance of their appearances at my monthly On Your Radar showcase at Rockwood Music Hall.
