WFUV at SXSW: The Wild Feathers at Hotel San Jose

The Wild Feathers (@WildFeathers) is a self-described "four-headed monster" from Nashville, based on the eternal rock truths of six strings, booming harmonies and the call of the open road. The four heads bear the unique voices of four formerly full-time lead singers: Ricky Young, Joel King, Taylor Burns and Preston Wimberly, who share both vocal and songwriting talents, like many of our favorites (see: Beatles, The Band, Gomez).

The guys have individually and collectively logged their miles, done their homework, listened to all the right records and played every crappy bar from one coast to another. They've worked it, and have come out the other side as great musicians who ply their solid harmonies into a mix of country, blues, folk and rock.

The Wild Feathers met up with Russ Borris and Team FUV at the Hotel San Jose during SXSW 2013, where they’d thrown drummer Ben in the back and driven in from Dallas to join the weaving parade of vans trying to park somewhere in this teeming town.

Ricky did the talking for the band, taking a humble stance on their vocalizing (“yeah, we all try to sing… we’re just not the Temptations,”) and the fact that they were asked to open for Bob Dylan (“half of us were tearing up when we got that call”).

This is a seriously sneaky peak -- The Wild Feathers have their debut album coming in June.  While you're waiting for more, check out their live version here of “Left My Woman.”
