The time has arrived for Lake Street Dive. After many years of hard work and dedication, the quartet has finally started reaping the benefits from their efforts. It has been around a decade or so since the band came together in Boston. The four members met each other while they were all attending the New England Conservatory in Boston. Guitarist, trumpeter and vocalist Mike Olson pulled the band together, recruiting lead vocalist Rachael Price, bassist and vocalist Bridget Kearney and drummer and vocalist Mike Calabrese. They took their name from an actual neighborhood of seedy bars in Minneapolis, Olson's hometown. By 2005, they had started the process of develping their sound and direction and building a fan base. The break they needed came in the form of a 2012 video of their performance of the Jackson 5's "I Want You Back". The video showcased the band gathered around a single microphone, performing the song on a street corner in Brighton, Massachusetts. It became a sensation on YouTube. WFUV fans will remember the band from their performance at the 2012 Holiday Cheer for FUV benefit concert at the Beacon Theatre. Now, they have graced us with their breakthrough release, their latest album, Bad Self Portraits.
Lake Street Dive promises to rock the Clearwater Festival when they perform on Sunday, June 22.
