Saint Rich: FUV Live At CMJ Artist

by Kara Manning | 10/09/2013 | 11:30am

Saint Rich is tapped to play FUV Live At CMJ and the duo's Steve Marion reveals his CMJ picks.

Have you discovered Saint Rich yet? They're joining WFUV and The Alternate Side's CMJ Music Marathon showcase, FUV Live at CMJ, on October 15 at Rockwood Music Hall from 5-9pm. In addition to Saint Rich, our lineup includes some of our favorite finds of the last year:  Lucius, Claire and James Bay. The entire showcase will be broadcast live on 90.7FM WFUV, streaming online too.

The duo of Saint Rich, Christian Peslak and Steve Marion, first began working together in Marion's band Delicate Steve. One weekend, the pair sequestered themselves in Marion's rural New Jersey house and began experimenting with other methods of songwriting — Marion traded his guitar for drums while Peslak assumed guitar and vocal duty. Seven songs later, the two had built the foundation of a brand new band, buoyed by a sinewy, loping melodies that reflected everything from Pavement's grit to the sweet sounds of late '60s Laurel Canyon classics.

Saint Rich's debut album, Beyond the Drone, was released earlier this month on Merge and the pair have been on the road with Wild Belle.

WFUV reached out to Saint Rich's Steve Marion and asked what might be his upcoming CMJ highlight. "We are curious to discover how many different outfits Riff Raff will be wearing during the duration of the Music Marathon," said Marion. "If he has multiple performances scheduled during one day, will he be switching outfits for each performance?"

Not surprisingly, Marion is most looking forward to seeing Riff Raff, in all his sartorial, Fruit Loop-noshing splendor, at CMJ, as well as local artists like Luke Temple, Empress Of and People Get Ready.

Below, watch Saint Rich's video for "Officer" (note that there is one obscenity lurking within, if you're sensitive to language):
