Prince- “Screwdriver”

Here we have some great, throwback style Prince. He kills it with some strong guitar and hands-off sounding production. Prince is the ultimate alternative pop star and here he cements that position.

Jose James- No Beginning No End

James combines jazz and hip hop in a totally relaxed way. He makes everything sound smooth, so obviously it’s incredibly hard to dislike this new record.

Johnny Marr- “Upstarts”

The ex-Smiths guitarist revolutionized the way his instrument was played in the 1980’s and 90’s. This song plays on his strong suits, so basically it’s a straight Brit-rock track.

Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell- “Hanging Up My Heart”

This song is the first we’ve heard off the new duets album from the country stars. The forthcoming album it’s off is called Old Yellow Moon and features four new tracks and eight covers.

The James Hunter 6- The James Hunter 6

James Hunter hasn’t released an album in five years, and this new record marks a strong comeback. It’s got the vintage sound that’s made him a staple within the blues and rock genre.

Eric Burdon- ‘Til Your River Runs Dry

Burdon says that his band The Animals are “dead,” but clearly he’s alive and well as a solo artist. Strangely enough, one of the biggest inspirations and supporters of this album is Mikhail Gorbachev.
