CD of the Week - All Fall Down

by Corny O'Connell
A A

Shawn Colvin describes All Fall Down as "an album about loss but also about redemption and resolution.” She wrote or co-wrote eight of the album’s eleven songs with folks such as Patty Griffin, Jakob Dylan and Bill Frisell. One song, “The Neon Light of the Saints”, was written with longtime collaborator John Leventhal specifically for HBO’s New Orleans drama Treme. For the first time Colvin enlisted her old friend and cohort Buddy Miller to produce the album. Guests include Emmylou Harris and Alison Krauss. The album’s release came on the same date as William Morrow/HarperCollins published her memoir, Diamond in the Rough.

Hear the WFUV CD of the Week Thursdays at 8 pm on 90.7 FM (radio broadcast only).

Shawn Colvin performs at the Ridgefield Playhouse June 22, and at The Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center June 29.
