On the actual release day of his 14th, eponymous album, Ryan Adams and his band performed an hour-long set at the legendary Electric Lady Studios in the West Village in New York City. Ryan has worked at Electric Lady before, but this new, self-produced album was recorded at his own funky studio called Pax Am.

It's been 14 years and 14 albums since Ryan Adams stepped away from the band Whiskeytown and began his solo career with the acclaimed Heartbreaker. His last album, Ashes & Fire, was released in 2011, and now he offers us a new effort, simply known as Ryan Adams. For many artists, a three-year gap between albums is not unusual, but for the prolific Adams, it seemed like a lifetime.

The Newport Folk Festival is upon us, and FUV is once again headed to Fort Adams State Park with NPR Music to bring you some of the sights and sounds. Our coverage kicks off Friday, with the opening night performance by Ryan Adams. Although the prolific songwriter has a deep catalog to draw from, we're likely in for a lot of new material as Ryan is set to release a self-titled album on September 9th. Listen in and find out, Friday at 6pm on 90.7FM or online. Then all weekend long, FUV will be at Newport's main Fort Stage, recording performances and posting them to the FUV Vault.
