It was a packed house at City Winery that greeted New York singer-songwriter Diane Birch and her band, as she treated fans and FUV Marquee members to a ton of new material off her sophomore effort, Speak A Little Louder (due October 15). It's been four years since her debut, Bible Belt, caught our ear with her big voice and soulful piano style. Just the night before, Diane had been on stage with Elvis Costello and The Roots at Brooklyn Bowl, and earlier this year, she was at Carnegie Hall singing "Raspberry Beret" at the Prince tribute show there.

Diane Birch - Words and Music - 2009

Brooklyn-based Diane Birch counts classical training, a religious upbringing, and a lot of miles traveled among the factors that influenced her debut album 'Bible Belt.' It's a nod to 70s pop songwriting (think Carole King and Laura Nyro) with plenty of voice to pull it off, and Diane brought her band by 'FUV to perform a few of the tunes in an interview with host Darren DeVivo.
