Bobby McFerrin

Bobby McFerrin on FUV Live

by John Platt

For over 3 decades, 10-time Grammy-winner Bobby McFerrin has taken us on wondrous musical journeys through genres like jazz, pop and classical, and he has really revolutionized the human voice as an instrument. On his new release he brings his boundless creativity to the world of spirituals, and the album is appropriately titled spirityouall.

Bobby McFerrin - Sunday Breakfast - 2013

by John Platt

Bobby McFerrin is both an extraordinary musician and extraordinary person. He's revolutionized the human voice as an instrument, led symphony orchestras, and collaborated with Chick Corea, Bela Fleck, and Yo Yo Ma, among others. As a human being, he's deeply spiritual, which is reflected in his latest project, Spirityouall, a collection of spirituals dedicated to his father, the operatic baritone Robert McFerrin.

I was thrilled and honored to have Bobby bring a band of amazing musicians into Studio A to perform songs from the CD and also talk with me about his father's influence, his onetime desire to be a monk(!), the power of music as a healing force, and "Don't Worry, Be Happy" as words to live by.
